Quack quack ducktail, have you any wool?

Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Three bags full (okay, it's more than three bags full. It's a LOT).

WELCOME, great cloth diaper hunters! You can start here.

It's getting cooler outside in our corner of the world, so the searches and requests for woolies are increasing daily. I've got my supply, but I'm working on keeping up with the demand :) Soon I will be retiring the custom spots for longies and soakers, but I'll leave the custom send-your-own-wool listing up - this is so that I can ensure that I have enough for my in-stock items and so that I can provide customers with descriptions on each that will be as detailed as possible. But if you're still interested in a custom, you can send in your own and know exactly what wool will be used for your custom-made woolies.

One of a Kind

Each pair of woolies I make is going to be different from any other. There will often be two (or sometimes three) pairs from the same sweater, but even then they will be different. Different sizes, different parts of the pattern or pieces of the sweater. What you see in the pictures of sold orders, or what you see listed, generally will not be able to be replicated in another size or color.

Halloween

I asked my two year old what she wanted to be for Halloween. This is about how it went on the three different occasions I tried (characters varied each time):

"Do you want to be...Mickey Mouse?"
"NO WAYYYYY!" (with giant sweeping arm-motion similar to "all done" sign language)
"Do you want to be...Minnie Mouse?"
"NO WAYYYYY!" (again with the arm...)
"A monkey?"
"NO WAYYYYY!"
"A lion?"
"NO WAYYYYY!"
"Princess Sophia? A duck? A pumpkin? An m&m?"
"STOP IT MOMMY!"

Balancing Act

Balance. It's a place so many of us struggle to find. I recently returned to my full time teaching job after maternity leave. I got to stay home with my Sweet P until she was nearly 3 months old (I know I'm fortunate for that time and fortunate that I work in a wonderful school that understands the needs of new moms). As I try to settle into this role of full time teacher, mom of two, wife, and crazy lady who has a part-time sewing business, I sometimes leave myself feeling...anxious. And then I think about all the things I'm doing and why I'm doing them.

What's with the wipes?

The organic cotton and bamboo terry wipes. Where this whole thing started. They continue to be my top sellers. And I can't seem to stop adding more to my own personal stash for my girls.

What are they?

70% Bamboo, 28% Organic Cotton, 2% Poly (added for stability of the bamboo) double sided terrycloth. That means it has the loops on both sides (like a bath towel, only thinner). It is Oeko-tex standard 100 certified (What does THAT mean?). Basically it's as safe as possible and even intended to go against a baby's skin. It's buttery soft. You'll want a pillow made out of it. The fabric has a creamy color to it, and is free of dyes and chemicals. The serged edges are 100% polyester thread.

Wet Bag Sizing Updates

Large Bag, Medium Bag, XS Bag
Over the last few days, I have started to update the shop with some new sizing structures for my wet bags. I wanted to put it all down here so that customers have a reference point for the sizing. These changes have been carefully considered and are the result of customer questions and feedback as well as some careful cost analysis (as pricing has changed, my costs made it so I was losing money on my best selling items).

The sizing you see here will be what most commonly gets stocked in the store, but other odd sizes might pop up here or there, and different sizes can always be done as a custom request.

Featured Product: Hanging Wet Bag

3 hanging wet bags
Ducktail Diaper Co.'s custom hanging wet bags are made to order with the print of your choice. These are a great way to get a custom bag that will match your nursery or other decor around the house.

Also keep an eye out for stocked, ready-to-ship hanging wet bags. They can hang from a doorknob, a wall hook, or from a changing table. They can be a cute, decorative alternative to a diaper pail. Also great for traveling with cloth, just bring the bag along to always have a place to keep your baby's dirty cloth diapers.

Can also be used for swimming - keep your wet towels and suits inside so your other things stay dry (just make sure to wring items out before putting them in).

Act fast on this featured item to get your discount - lasts through July 1, 2013!

Wool Care

As a cloth diapering mama who uses wool over fitteds, I searched and searched for the right care instructions for my wool. It was so overwhelming at first, but now that I have my system down it really doesn't feel like a big deal at all. As I type this, I have three woolies wrapped up in towels to dry.

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the blog of Ducktail Diaper Co! My name is Laura and I'm the mama behind Ducktail Diaper Co. I started creating cloth diapering accessories in March of 2012 for myself and some close friends. It's grown from there and will continue to do so as long as I'm able. I found sewing to be a great way to use my extra time while my husband wrote his music. I wanted a kind of "hobby" for myself - something that was enjoyable to me, but something that could also be fruitful for our family.

In my other life, I teach high school math and am mama to a two-year-old daughter (Joey) with another daughter to come (July 2013).

I've now been in a few situations where I've been left wanting or needing a blog to link to my store, so here we are!
